hockey

last night i went to my first hockey game ever. it was also the first time i ever took pictures at a hockey game. it makes sense that where the photographers sit there is no net or glass in front of you. however this allows for good pictures no one tells you how stressful it is to sit there with pucks flying all over the place. however i did get good pictures from this location my anxiety level has never been so high. At one point in the game a couple players even broke the glass that lines the side of the rink. that happened about 6 panels down from where i was sitting. by then i was already frozen from sitting so close to the ice and it was not really heated on that side of the rink and it smelled terrible from all the hockey players. I decided by the end of the second period it was time to leave the game. I got a lot of shots but i couldn’t feel my toes anymore and my nerves had had enough for the night. I was shaking the entire game from being cold and from just sheer adrenaline thinking that a puck was going to fly at my head and either break my face or my camera. neither of which actually happened but still it was scary. i think from this experience that maybe shooting hockey games is not the right thing for me to do. and if i am ever given the chancew again to shoot a game i think i will try and shoot it from the cat walk over the ice. at least then i will be less likely to get hit by a puck, just more likely to fall 30ft. to the ground.
